BRIEF HISTORY OF BASB
The British Crown, in 1942 raised a tri services organization named 'Soldiers, Sailors and Airmens Board' to look after the welfare of the service personnel in five townships of the then undivided Bengal, namely Dhaka, Noakhali, Chittagong, Barisal and Dinajpur. After the partition of India- Pakistan in 1947, it was renamed as Pakistan Armed Services Board (PASB). With the independence of Bangladesh, the organization was reformed as Bangladesh Armed Services Board and placed under the Ministry of Defense (MOD). However, with the establishment of Armed Forces Division (AFD), control of all aspects except the budgetary, statutory and TO&E matters were vested with the AFD..
